For women, hair loss can be a triple threat, as it impacts them medically, emotionally, and cosmetically. Women lose confidence in their attractiveness when the hair begins to thin or fall out in patches. Finding the root of the hair loss issue is the beginning of treatment.

Hair loss in women can be attributed to one of four causes. Androgenetic alopecia is a thinning of the hair all over the scalp due to an excess of androgens. Telogen effluvium is caused by trauma, like major surgery or childbirth. The telogen phase of hair shedding is activated by the trauma and hair falls out by the handful. Anagen effluvium is the result of chemotherapy. Hair is impacted at the cellular level and the result can be a loss of 90 percent of the hair during this period of treatment. The fourth cause of hair loss is traction alopecia, caused by tightly braided hair, cornrows, and pony tails. The hair is traumatized by the tight constrictions and falls out.

Contraceptives Can Cause Hair Loss in Women

Based in Chicago, Illinois, Yates Hair Science Group provides state-of-the-art procedures for the treatment of hair loss. Guided by Dr. William Yates, Yates Hair Science Group offers treatment for both men and women.

Women who have a predisposition to hormonal changes can undergo hair loss while taking birth control pills, and for several months after ceasing to take the pill. If there is a history of hair loss genetically in the family, birth control pills can trigger hair loss. The American Hair Loss Association recommends that women with hair loss tendencies use low-androgen birth control pills.

There are other products that release hormones for birth control purposes other than birth control pills. These can also create hair loss for women. Progestin implants such as Norplant, hormone injections like Depo-Provera, skin patches like Ortho Evra, and the vagina ring (NuvaRing) all release hormones into the blood stream that can cause hair loss. Women who are sensitive to hormones or who are predisposed to hair loss, may consider non-hormonal forms of birth control.

It is noted that any drug or treatment that changes the hormones in a woman’s body can induce hair loss.

Connections between American Leadership and a Full Head of Hair

Yates Hair Science Group is an Illinois company that undertakes a full range of surgical hair implantation procedures, including the leading edge follicular unit extraction approach. The Science Group is led by Dr. William Yates, who authored “Hair Matters: It Always Has and Always Will,” which is being prepared for publication.

For the founding fathers, long hair was the norm, as it conveyed a sense of authoritative leadership, and powdered wigs were worn by leaders such as George Washington. To this day, maintaining a full head of hair is seen as a strong indicator of vitality and fitness for leadership, as attested to by presidents from John F. Kennedy to Bill Clinton. One of the very few exceptions to this rule was Dwight D. Eisenhower, a hero of the Second World War whose reputation for military leadership, rather than his hairline, launched him to the White House.

These observations about American leaders have been borne out by a number of psychological studies, including one measuring children’s perceptions as related to attributes of friendliness, attractiveness, and approachability. Shown pictures of people before and after restoration surgery, virtually every young survey participant selected the “after” picture with abundant hair as the better looking individual.

The Advantages of Natural, Undetectable FUE Hair Transplants

Based in Vernon Hills, Illinois, Yates Hair Science Group offers patients leading edge hair restoration surgery options focused on follicular unit extraction (FUE). This technique involves the creation of permanent natural hair that can be styled in any manner. The Yates Hair Science Group team takes pride in creating a hairline and hair density that fills in areas of thinning and is undetectable.

The FUE procedure begins with hair being harvested from the follicular units in the donor area, traditionally the back of the scalp. Hand-held instruments as well as the ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant System are employed in individually punching out follicles. Only the strongest specimens are selected as worthy of transplantation. They are carefully stored and maintained until transplantation in biological solutions such as ATPv (adenosine triphosphate) and hypothermosol.

A major advantage of the FUE approach is that it avoids the painful cuts and lifelong scars associated with the traditional strip transplantation techniques. This has to do with the use of micro-incisions for creating sites across the scalp for individual follicular units to be placed.
